SCPA Teacher Retraces Historic Civil Rights March

Harvey Lewis, a history teacher at the School for Creative and Performing Arts, became the first person to run the 54-mile route of the historic 1965 Civil Rights March from Selma to Montgomery, Ala., in a single day. While there, Mr. Lewis interviewed Amelia Boynton Robinson, who was one of the principal organizers of the march, and Rev. Richard Boone, the field director for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) in 1965. The entire effort has been documented by Focus Media Studios, which plans to release the footage in the coming months.
