School Skates Program Takes CPS Students to Ice Rink

First Student, provider of school transportation services to Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS), has partnered with the district, YMCA CincyAfterSchool and 3CDC to give students a chance to skate at the U.S. Bank Ice Rink on Fountain Square as part of the first School Skates program.

The School Skates program fulfills a health and wellness component offered as part of the YMCA after-school curriculum. The more than 600 participating CPS students are from 15 district schools. Students spend two to three hours at the ice rink before being transported back to their schools for parent pickup.

First Student provides free round-trip transportation for the students, and 3CDC and its subsidiary, Fountain Square Management Group, take care of the ice rink’s admission cost. The students skate from the time they arrive after school until approximately 6:00 p.m. The program began on January 5, 2010, and ends on February 18, 2010.
