AMIS Students to Participate in “Cochinito Volador” Marathon

For those of us who don't speak Spanish, Conchinito Volador is how our young students at the Academy of Multilingual Immersion Studies (AMIS) refer to the "Flying Pig" Marathon set for next month. Students from AMIS' Young Readers Program, which is sponsored by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), will participate in this year's Flying Pig Kids' Marathon, which allows them to finish the 26.2-mile distance in half-mile or one-mile increments during the school year. The final mile will be completed on the actual marathon course on Saturday, May 1, 2010, during Flying Pig Marathon Weekend. Maria Lang, English as a Second Language teacher at AMIS, and Maya Shahani, school nurse, are coordinating the effort, which is a partnership between AMIS, the Greater Cincinnati Nutrition Council and the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon.
