CPS Food Services Dept. Secures $850,000 in Grants for Fresh Fruits and Veggies

Cincinnati Public Schools' Department of Food Services has been awarded a grant of $850,000 by the Ohio Department of Education to provide fresh fruits and vegetables at 23 of the district's elementary schools. The grant runs from July 2010 through June 2011.

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) provides all students in the targeted schools with a variety of free fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the school day. It is an effective and creative way of encouraging students to select healthy snack options, as well as introduce them to an array of fruits from around the world.

This is the seventh year the Ohio Department of Education has offered the grant. Schools benefiting from the program are:

  5. Ethel M. Taylor Academy
  6. Evanston Academy (formerly Hoffman-Parham School)
  7. Frederick Douglass School
  8. Hays-Porter School
  9. John P. Parker School
  10. Mt. Airy School
  11. Pleasant Hill Academy
  12. Quebec Heights School
  13. Rees E. Price Academy
  14. Roberts Paideia Academy
  15. Rockdale Academy
  16. Roll Hill Academy
  17. Roselawn Condon School
  18. Rothenberg Preparatory Academy
  19. Silverton Paideia Academy
  20. South Avondale School
  21. Westwood School
  22. William H. Taft Elementary
  23. Winton Hills Academy
