Sons Honor Mother’s Memory with Donation to Support Adult Learners

Submitted by Robbie Thomas, ABLE Program Administrator

The CPS Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) program has some good news that came about in a sad way. Charlotte Philpott, an ABLE staff member for many years, passed away earlier this year. Her sons — Gregg, Todd, Chris and Tim Philpott — contacted our offices because they wanted to make a contribution to assist ABLE students in memory of their mother. The CPS Treasurer's Office assisted me in establishing a memorial fund in which Mrs. Philpott's sons made a $5,000 contribution. Macy's Department Stores will give an additional $1,250.

The fund will be used to pay the GED test fees of $40 each for students who meet the following criteria:

  • 19 years of age and older
  • pass the Official Practice GED test with a score of 470

Cincinnati Public Schools would like to thank Greg, Todd, Chris and Tim Philpott, as well as Macy's, for their generous donations.
