GE Aviation and GE Capital donated more than 33,000 book bags to Cincinnati Public Schools. In a letter to principals, staff and students, Elizabeth Del Toro, public and community relations manager for GE Aviation, said:
"As one of your long-standing partners, we value and appreciate all of the work you do to support student achievement and remain committed to continuing the partnership not just with our dollars, but with volunteerism and GE management capacity expertise across the district."
GE Aviation recently announced that it would begin its second phase of collaboration with CPS with a $5.3-million, three-year extension grant to assist in the implementation of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) — a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers. The CCSS provides a clear and consistent roadmap to ensure all students are prepared to meet the demands of an ever-changing global marketplace.
The new grant extends a previous five-year $20-million grant to the district, which ended following the 2010-11 school year.
Many thanks to GE for being such a wonderful friend to the students and staff of Cincinnati Public Schools.
