Mt. Airy Teacher to Use Summer Educator Experience to Teach Students How to Fight Poverty

2010_heifer_logo Kathy Groene, a 4th-grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher at Mt. Airy School, was one of 30 teachers selected from a national pool to attend Heifer International's Study Tour for Educators. She traveled to Honduras to witness, first hand, Heifer's sustainable development methods to fight hunger and poverty, and learn strategies to incorporate her experiences into classroom lessons.

"I was moved and impressed by what a gift Heifer is to the communties they impact," said Groene. "My goal for the upcoming school year is to get my students involved in Heifer's mission, and also to help them understand how much of an impact they can have on the global community."
