Fourteen outstanding alumni of Cincinnati Public Schools will be enshrined in April as the Class of 2012 in CPS’ Athletic Hall of Fame.
Their accomplishments include football, basketball, baseball, tennis, and track and field. The earliest honoree is from the Class of 1925 and the most recent is from 1993.
"These athletes have distinguished themselves both on and off the field of play," said Dave Dierker, CPS’ Director of Athletics.
Class of 2012 inductees:
Ed Beamon (Withrow, 1974), Marshall Chambers (Walnut Hills, 1940), Damon Flint (Woodward, 1993), Larry Hoover (Hughes, 1949), Kannard Johnson (Taft, 1983), Dave Parker (Courter Tech, 1970), David Pool (Cincinnati Academy of Physical Education (C.A.P.E.), 1985), Dr. Herman Turner (Central Vocational, 1947), Willard Bass (Walnut Hills), Anita Burke (Hughes), John Anderson (Hughes, 1925), Dr. Howard Bellamah (Old Woodward, 1946),Thomas Jones (Central Vocational, 1950) and Wilce Carnes (Withrow, 1936).
Beamon, Chambers, Flint, Hoover, Johnson, Parker, Pool and Turner were nominated in the Living Athlete Category; Bass and Burke, in the Coaches Category; and Anderson, Bellamah, Jones and Carnes in the Posthumous Athlete Category.
The inductees will be enshrined at a dinner and ceremony on April 12, 2012, at Withrow High School. Emcees will be local media personalities, TV sports reporter John Popovich and radio talk show host Lincoln Ware.
