SCPA Creative Writing Students Share Their Talents Throughout Cincinnati

Submitted by Dr. Isidore Rudnick, artistic director, SCPA

Congratulations to the School for Creative and Performing Arts' Creative Writing Department. The elementary writers (4th-6th grade) performed their poetry in conjunction with the Cincinnati Pops for the family friendly concert titled Carnival of Animals. These students read their poetry to an audience of over 3,000 people as the orchestra played.

The middle school writers competed in the Power of the Pen statewide competition and three — Makenna Moses (8th grade), Sabrina Allison (8th grade) and Max Paula (7th grade) — were honored with invitations to the regional competition.

The high school writers have seen a number of honors, including  performing at Music Hall for Cincinnati's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration; publications in literary anthologies; as well as launching two school newspapers (elementary and high school) to service the varying ages and topic interests of the school's readers.

The Creative Writing Department also is in the process of publishing a literary magazine and launching a creative writing web site. Additionally, students will perform various works of poetry at Joseph Beth Bookstore in Hyde Park this spring.
