Walnut Hills High School’s Kontsis is Coach of the Year


KintsisCongratulations to George "Coach K" Kontsis, varsity football coach at Walnut Hills High School, on being named the 2011 Coach of the Year by the Marvin Lewis Community Fund. The award is given annually to the top high school football coach in the Tristate area. Coach Kontsis was selected based on his teaching skills, sportsmanship, dedication to players, and commitment to education and his community.

Coach Kontsis joined Walnut Hills in 2009 and has turned the varsity football program around since day one. He led his team to an 8-2 record this year, the first 8-win season in 55 years. Also, the team made its first playoff appearance in the school's history.

"It is my honor to make this presentation on behalf of George Kontsis for the Coach of the Year Award," said Tom Donnelly, Walnut Hills athletic director, in his 5-page recommendation of Coach Kontsis to the Marvin Lewis Community Fund. "He has so significatntly affected the lives of 200 young men and boys at Walnut Hills every year, that my words cannot do him justice."

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis will present the Coach of the Year Award to Coach Kontsis during the annual Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar-Athletes Banquet on Feb. 28, 2012, at the Westin Hotel.
