Jeff Brokamp, principal of Walnut Hills High School, was selected as the 2013 Excellence in Education Award recipient by the AdvancED Ohio State Council. Each year, the state council selects an individual who has demonstrated unparalleled leadership in promoting and advancing excellence in education. AdvancED is the global leader in advancing education excellence through accreditation and school improvement.
Walnut Hills has been accredited since 1905. During the last accreditation review, Mr. Brokamp invited a member of Miami University, Ohio, to serve on the External Team. He wanted to gather feedback on his students' readiness for college work.
From this review, Walnut Hills formed a partnership with Miami University's English Department that now offers dual credit work and professional development within the Walnut Hills experience. Mr. Brokamp also hosted a conference of similar high schools and university partners last spring to help identify and grow other such experiences for his students and students across the country.
Mr. Brokamp meets the qualifications for the Excellence in Education Award because he has been able to leverage the benefits and value of th AdvancED Accreditation Protocol to form partnerships that benefit students, staff and the community.
Congratulations to Mr. Brokamp!
