Aiken 10th-Grader Hangs Out with Pro Athletes

Kale with Bengals gifts

MyKale "Kale" Franklin, a 10th-grader at Aiken, poses with the many gifts he received from the Cincinnati Bengals.

MyKale Franklin was a typical 10th-grader at Aiken High School until earlier this year when he was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, a rare cancer that develops deep in the back of the nose and lymph nodes. Kale, as he is known to friends, has been fighting ever since.

Just before Christmas, he receieved a special visit at Aiken from a Cincinnati Reds talent scout who gave him multiple gifts, including a baseball signed by Reds 2nd-baseman Brandon Phillips. Not long after, he was invited to a Cincinnati Bengals practice, where he met players Devon Still and AJ Green, and Coach Marvin Lewis.
