Parents and students gathered in the Hays-Porter cafetorium for the first Hays Tech Talent Production (HTTP).
“Students were really excited about the talent show,” said Nedria McClain, principal. “During the show, students were coming up to me and asking if they could perform.”
Hays-Porter introduced its High Technology program during the 2016-2017 school year through Cincinnati Public Schools’ (CPS) Vision 2020: My Tomorrow program. The school added a technology component to the talent show using a speaker, microphones and a computer to run music performances and demonstrate that technology is used in students’ everyday lives.
Students in grades 4-6 participated in the talent show to earn a stamp in their “Tech it to the Next Level” passport. Students earn stamps throughout the 2017-2018 school year in order to win a scholarship to a technology camp.
Students performed songs such as “Genie in a Bottle” by Christina Aguilera and “Scars to Your Beautiful” by Alessia Cara, and danced to various hip-hop and rap songs.
The Hays-Porter third grade group, the Glow-Bots, performed a special dance piece complete with choreography and glow sticks.
Parents will have a chance to show their talents in December when Hays-Porter hosts a family talent show open to parents and siblings.
