A Night Out for Dads and Daughters at Pleasant Hill Academy

The young ladies of Pleasant Hill Academy had an enchanting evening with their dads, grandfathers, uncles and friends at the school’s annual Father-Daughter Dance on Friday, March 23, 2018. The dance promotes parental involvement and gives dads the chance to take part in their daughter’s education.

“This is a great environment for collaboration,” said Shauna McDowell, principal. “Dads can meet each other and share these special moments with their daughters before time gets in the way.”

Attendees enjoyed refreshments, giveaways and music from a DJ. A professional photographer was also capturing photos against a backdrop for the fathers and daughters to have a memento from the night.

Lu Williams, an influential community member and father of five, took to the stage during a dance break to talk about the importance of fatherhood.

“A father’s time with their daughter is valuable and makes her the person she will become,” said Williams. “You set the example for the rest of her life.”

Teacher and father Leonardo Acoff brings his daughters every year. “As a teacher, I can feel how important it is to have a father in a child’s life,” said Acoff. “You never realize how much a few hours means to them.”
