At Midway School’s back-to-school open house, students and parents were excited to start a new school year and were eager to learn about Midway’s new Vision 2020 STEAM program.
The program will integrate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fundamentals with the Arts to promote the creative thinking and ingenuity necessary to succeed in high school and beyond.
The packed house also heard from Midway teachers, personnel and students, who promised an exciting year ahead — they even promoted a science fair occurring a few months down the road.
After cutting the ribbon on the STEAM program, Principal Hasselbusch encouraged students and parents to visit their new teachers and classrooms and to enjoy the many activities that the open house had available.
One of the biggest draws was the STEAM tables. Students lined up to fly a drone around the cafeteria (while wearing the accompanying goggles, of course), jam out on musical instruments, create art projects and more.
Indeed, this young man has some exciting projects ahead of him. He and his fellow students will be asked to investigate and solve complex questions, challenges and problems using hands-on, interdisciplinary methods. They’ll even enjoy a dedicated STEAM teacher, field trips, access to new technology and more.
The energy certainly was palpable during Midway’s back-to-school open house. And, all signs point to that same level of energy lasting the whole year through.
